Yes! EMU is great! Actually I'm listening to it again at the moment. Really great drony gem...
And while we're at it, I'm really fond of Somei. Your review of it was spot on, Pappa. The first track is certainly one of the most interesting drum pieces I've heard from Akita so far.
Camouflage is solid imo, but it didn't really spark my interest as much as some of the other recent Merz releases (e.g. Dead Leaves, Somei etc) so far. I'll give it a few more listens over the next days. But I guess my main problem simply is that I'm constantly comparing it to Sha Mo 3000, which I probably shouldn't.

I need to check out Somei again, actually, but yes, the first track did kinda blow my mind....! Camouflage I found to be definitely solid. Possibly my favourite of the 09 releases so far, can't say for sure though as EVERYTHING needs re-listens!! I do think the main reason Camouflage is compared to Sha Mo is simply down to it being on Essence Music, and comng in the swanky box / card sleeve. Had it been on say, Important Records or Vivo Records, maybe the comparison wouldn't be made as often, if at all.... I played Suzume today also, and enjoyed it. Tracks 2 and 3 here are superior I think, but it runs very nicely as an album....Still awaiting Fukurou...

Today I have mostly been listening to Flight of the Behemoth - Sunn0))) and Merzbow. I have to say that I love all of this CD. The Sunn0))) sections are brilliant and the Merzbow parts are just awesome. Certainly parts of it sound very much like Dharma which I also think is the Dog's.
I would love to see these two play a gig together.

I would love to see these two play a gig together. Thrench Actually, the Japanese version of "Flight of the Behemoth" contains a bonus disc with an one hour live set of Sunn 0))) and Merzbow playing in Tokyo (recorded in 2007). Killer set and worth the purchase alone imo. I listened to Day of Seals (Disc 1 + 4) and Tombo today, to get me excited for the live show on Saturday.

Checked out Yurikamome earlier. Enjoyed it, the second track, " February 2002 " stood out, maybe my favourite on there, for first listen at least. More " beat " drumming on the first track, similar to the Somei vibe.
I think this recent drum phase has definitely ran its course now, as Halcyon mentioned. At many points while listening, I did kinda wish the drums weren't there...

Yeah, "February 2002" is also my fave on "Yurikamome", though I have to say that I like all tracks on this one. The first track is a bit too long imo, but I still think that this album is the best of the "Japanese Birds" releases so far.
I'm currently listening to Merzbuddha. Man, I totally forgot what a great album this is. It's actually one of the Merz CD's I can listen to while I'm working.

I'm listening to Uzura right now. The first track didn't really spark my interest - it sounded too much like some of the other tracks on the Japanese Bird releases. Track 2, however, is really cool so far. Great atmosphere, the drum loop at the beginning makes it sound like something straight out of the Silent Hill games. Even better, around the 18 minute mark, the rhythmic loop he used in his performances in london and salzburg (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YkW3cQiH-pE) makes an appearance. Beautiful!
Also, I have to say that Uzura has my favourite artwork in the Bird series so far.

Absolutely! Unexpectedly quiet and really fresh sounding. I'd love to hear more in that direction.

If I remember correctly it was a free download from the discordance axis website...not sure if it's still around or not. I picked it up a few years ago now.
