I really like Amlux, too. Wonder why it's so often dissed? Maybe a just distaste for Important Records?

spiral honey.. not his greatest. Nor his worst. The first two tracks I really enjoyed, then it seemed to slide downhill.... I did enjoy Great Deceiver though, with what is almost definitely a sample from Fripps guitar from King Crimsons The Great Deceiver, from Starless And Bible Black.... I cant believe a copy of Spiral Honey just sold on eBay for £4.10!

i'm so over the whole ebay fetishising of albums. i fell for it once and was 'happy' to pay way too much for non essential albums, like spiral honey. just download it guys! masami's not making any money on it!!

amlux.. no it's not a distaste for important, what a pointless sentiment that would be, as they're released some great material - last of analog, merzbear, minazo. looping jane is a good track, and i agree a good entry point for non-noise fans. i think of sha mo along the same terms in fact, and that's the one i use for such a purpose. but what about the other four tracks? they're all markedly unoriginal and uninnovative in comparison to his other material. i don't care that he's quoting takemitsu's use of biwa on track 1, it's a stupid sample, he does nothing with it. it really suffers from the looping problem. ok the last track is arguable 'innovative' in comparison w his oeuvre in general, but come on.. it's boring! the sound on it has GREAT POTENTIAL, and i like the sound, it's almost like 'sleepy jazz', maybe a rainy day driving w windscreen wipers, w hints of city coming through foggy mirrors; it has a nice ambient character, don't think I haven't thought about it and am dissing it for the sake of it. But he does nothing with it. Track 3 is just one of those tracks that call for the forward button to be hit.. immediately.

Currently listening to Sha Mo 3000 again. What a great album... I really enjoy these rock elements in his earlier laptop recordings!
I also listened to Dolphin Sonar for the first time today. So far I like it less than Anicca but more than Arijigoku. I need to give it a few more spins, though.

i must admit my interested for dolphin sonar waned a little.. i think annica is quite strong, and i think aijigoku is *gulp* pretty dodgy. the last track of annica is perhaps his most obvious nod to the laptop style of looping since say houjoue, or the '05 albums. (ok, looping exists on coma b and merzbear etc, but this is old school laptop looping or just chunks of sound, rather than riffs or beats). i like the contrast between that 3rd track and the free style of track 1.. the drumming sounds better on annica too, don't you think? sha mo is great! i take that over amlux as a similar though better formed whole..

Agreed about Arijigoku. The more I listen to it, the less I like it. I think Anicca and Dolphin Sonar have a lot more to offer on repeated listens as they feel to me a lot more rewarding and detailed in texture (and yeah, the contrast between Track 1 and 3 on Anicca sure is nice).

This evening I've been mostly listening to firstly Catapillar and then Medamaya from the Last of Analogue Sessions. I think that these CD's are generally overlooked (well by myself anyway). It's a good triplet of CD's to own, each with their own character but also very much part of the overall package. And all washed down with a pint of Pitchfork Bitter, very nice...

Checked out Dead leaves tonight. Was not overly impressed for a first listen. My first impressions are that it isn't as strong as some of his recent releases, and I include his "non drum" output in this also.
It certainly is not Rainbow Electronics, put it that way.
Of course, this was only my first excursion.....

On the other hand, Tombo is FANTASTIC. Really back to the old skool! Sounds almost completely analogue to me, certainly more analog than laptop. Whatever, a great listen so far!

Have to agree with you about Dead Leaves. Somehow missing a little something. It might grow on me though, we'll see.

I'm loving Dead Leaves! Just typed that before in another post. I think it's a marvellous textural feast with a great balance between looping material and the post-laptop free form. And a similar high density density to Tombo, without the enduring high end though.. I'd say more 'featured' than Tombo (ie. more to hold onto/remember).
