looks great:
John Zorn: Interzone [#7387]
ZORN’S LONG AWAITED TRIBUTE TO WILLIAM BURROUGHS! Femina, Dictée and Liber Novus were a triumphant return to the file card techniques Zorn developed in the early ’80s, and mark a new renaissance of the form. Acclaimed as among Zorn’s greatest recent works, Interzone could be the best of the bunch! A fan of William Burroughs and Brion Gysin since his first encounter with their work in the late ’60s, Zorn has often mentioned their cut up and fold-in literary techniques as influences on his speedy jump cut compositions. With Interzone he pays homage to the work and worlds of these two maverick twentieth century artists, jumping in classic style from genre to genre, scene to scene. Stopping along the way in seedy bars, Moroccan streets, mind control offices, carnival side shows and science fiction fantasies the music develops from moment to moment with the inevitability and power of Zorn’s finest work. Featuring core players of Zorn’s musical landscape, some whom have worked in file card units before, and others who are new to it, the piece is replete with drama and magic. An incredible and essential new world of epic proportions!

I'm glad it isn't another new body of work, I'm tired of the "nice" Zorn, even though it is obviously popular.

This description showed up on myspace (per a quick google): By popular request Tzadik has finally initiated a new limited edition vinyl series of some of our greatest releases. The first installment is a special collection of one of Zorn's most popular ensembles, The Dreamers. The Gentle Side collects ten of the most beautiful and lyrical tracks from all three of The Dreamers' releases, specially remastered and pressed on high quality 180g vinyl. This gorgeous collector's picture disc features fabulous artwork by acclaimed Tzadik designer Chippy!

Thanks, yep I saw it via myspace too. I think that this vinyl slant might be a good way to keep Tzadik alive. There are great albums of the past that would be great on vinyl. The Avant Naked City albums for instance, or the Painkiller ones... As the brief description reports "our greatest releases", I doubt that upcoming new records will be given such a treat.

Don't know if this one has been mentioned yet, but Chippy wrote this on facebook:
"Currently working hard on JZ's Nova Express. (John Medeski, Kenny Wollesen, Trevor Dunn, Joey Baron)"

From a post by Chippy on Facebook: Heung-Heung Chin Chippy Design wrote: "Following up on seeds first planted in the depths of the Interzone conspiracy, Nova Express combines the quirky atonal lyricism of Zorn’s classical music with the cut up techniques of Naked City and the intimate virtuosity of the Masada songbook. Scored for a modern jazz quartet of vibes, piano, bass and drums, these episodic, dynamic and moody compositions feature some of Zorn’s strongest writing. Performed by an all-star group of four downtown masters, this is an exciting new sound from the world of John Zorn. Modern chamber miniatures music filled with beautiful details and dramatic passions composed and conducted by our East Village musical alchemist."
Scheduled for a March 2011 release.
Sounds amazing.. I've been listening to Interzone a couple of days and it's brilliant!!!! Best Zorn release of the year!

I haven't checked Interzone out yet but this supposed follow-up "Nova Express" sounds a bit less enticing (to me) because of the vibes:-) I'm looking forward to the much anticipated Banquet of the Spirit release (within the Book of Angels series) john-zorn.blogspot.com/2010/11/caym-book-of-angels-volume-17.htmlBtw, this Zorn French blog is not bad at all...

According to Chippy's Facebook, she's done with the design for Nova Express, and now she's looking for a magickal font for The Satyr's play.

I wonder if the Satyr's Play is the piece featuring Kenny Wollesen and Cyro Baptista that I heard mentioned somewhere... really looking forward to that.
John Zorn: The Satyr's Play - Cerberus [#7390] Two dramatic new worlds in sound from our downtown Alchemist who continues to confound and defy expectations well into his fourth decade of recorded activity. Scored for two percussionists, The Satyr's Play is a dramatic work that mysteriously evokes the decadent excesses of Bacchanalia and Saturnalia. Presented in book form accompanied by a esoteric text beautifully illustrated with rare drawings by the great mystical artist Austin Osman Spare, this is a work of subtle nuance and sexuality. In contrast, Cerberus, is a flamboyant and dynamic trio for brass. A demonic piece featuring three undisputed Brass virtuosos, it jumps styles, moods and genres in classic Zorn fashion. Radical, moody and colorful chamber works for the 21st century.
