The Satyr’s Play * Cerberus
Two dramatic new worlds in sound from our downtown Alchemist who continues to confound and defy expectations well into his fourth decade of re...corded activity. Scored for two percussionists, The Satyr’s Play is a dramatic work that mysteriously evokes the decadent excesses of Bacchanalia and Saturnalia. Presented in book form accompanied by a esoteric text beautifully illustrated with rare drawings by the great mystical artist Austin Osman Spare, this is a work of subtle nuance and sexuality. In contrast, Cerberus, is a flamboyant and dynamic trio for brass. A demonic piece featuring three undisputed Brass virtuosos, it jumps styles, moods and genres in classic Zorn fashion. Radical, moody and colorful chamber works for the 21st century.

Hey All, I just wanted to share with you all a video series I'm doing in conjunction with the release of the new Banquet of the Spirits Caym. I have created a video for each song on the new album... here is the idea: Here is a sneak peak into the making of the album CAYM! This is the first in a series of collaborative videos made by videographer Justin Bias that will include a separate movie for each track on Caym.
From these videos, the listener will not only gain insight into the creative process, but also better understand the inspiration behind each song!
First Up: Yahel!
Banquet of The Spirits is Cyro Baptista Shanir Ezra Blumenkranz Tim Keiper Brian Marsella
Original Compositions By John Zorn
Video Shot and Created By Justin BiasI'm not sure how to embed the video on this site... the facebook link is here: www.facebook.com/#!/video/video.php?v=10150168793487193 ..if you could help by posting this on facebook for others to see, that would be so cool!the youtube link is here if you don't have facebook: www.youtube.com/watch?v=OIIfFcu0r4kAlso.... please join the CAYM facebook page: www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Cyro-Baptistas-Banquet-of-the-Spirits-Caym-Book-of-Angels-Vol-17/107329706014229 Stay tuned for more videos! -Justin

Nice work, thanks! Very enjoyable. I love the new album. The best is, it is not a Masada clone. Great arrangements, Shanir is the man! He did also an amazing job on the new Pitom album.

Ok guys, Le Zornographe blog says that Zorn announced a new installment of The Dreamers series called "Christmas", featuring Mike Patton, during the just performed Marathon in NYC. The album was recorded last week and will be released later this year (maybe for Xmas?:-) . Can anybody confirm it? (the entry is April 3 dated, so I really hope is not an April fools' joke:-)
Btw, Caym is simply great... I'll definitely go for it!

He did tell us that right before the Dreamers' set at the Masada Marathon (which was on March 30th, not April 1!). I don't think he mentioned Mike Patton, but I could be forgetting, it was a long night. He said something about all the songs on it being written by Jews (a lot of famous Christmas songs were written by Jewish composers so this wouldn't be too difficult). I am still a tiny bit suspicious though, since Downtown Music Gallery included the Dreamers' Christmas album as one of their joke April Fool's releases in their newsletter...

Yeah, it really might be... or maybe not! We'll soon find out.
EDIT: Well, on Chippy's Facebook page you can read that she's working on the cd cover. The album is scheduled to be released in June 2011.

The album is scheduled to be released in June 2011. I think she said that Christmas cd was to be released this year. The june release should be Enigmata, drum and bass, part of the Moonchild project.

Thanks, you're right. I read Chippy's post too quickly though it would have been fun to see Christmas in summer:-)

This one sounds like something I might really like...
John Zorn: Enigmata [#7391] Twelve bizarre compositional miniatures for the blazing duo of Marc Ribot and Trevor Dunn combining classical 12-tone lyricism with rock intensity and improvisational madness. Jumping from composition to improvisation so seamlessly that it is often impossible to tell what is what, this is some of the craziest music he has ever created. An amazing CD of instrumental madness: Captain Beefheart’s Magic Band meets Arnold Schoenberg!

I'd be more worried if Auto-Tune was being used on purpose! I'm sure it'll be fine... As for upcoming Tzadik - I'm really looking forward to the Les Rhinoceros album. The tracks I've heard so far sound excellent.

The tracks I've heard so far sound excellent. So Mike's voice will be really featured in the upcoming Tzadik release! That's good news... I guess it will be ready for the end of the year judging from its name :-) Les Rhinoceros album belongs to a new Tzadik series, "Spotlight". I've just noticed that. Zorn said he was about to reduce the amount of releases per month but he keeps on augmenting his label catalog anyway, that's good news too.
