Don't Steal My Goat arrived a couple days ago. This is a very enjoyable album. Flows really well, and is total Merzbow. Indeed, very nice stuff. The last track is great and actually sounds pretty much like the stuff on the Merzbow/Richard Pinhas Collab (minus the melodies). So if you liked it, you should definitely check that one out. As for Kamo, I think it's the weakest of all Japanese Birds releases so far. So far, every part had at least one unique sounding track on offer, but Kamo really is just the usual free style drumming + harsh noise stuff, as far as I'm concerned. At the moment, Uzura is my favourite from the series. Right now, I'm listening a lot to the Merzbannon LP. Extremely cool stuff, mainly because it harks back to Akita's pure laptop phase: Endless drum loops, digital noises and atmospheric guitar samples dominate this release. The cover doesn't mention when this thing was recorded, but I'm pretty sure it's from 2004 or 2005. It really sounds similar to releases like Merzbird, Senmaida etc. Also, I really enjoy Hiranya. I'd probably even say that it's one of Akita's best drum releases so far. The mixture of harsh stuff, Synthi A and guitar sounds really works well in this release. Also, is it just me or did he sample "Looping Jane" on both tracks? I'm curious what you think about Tempi/Matatabi. Still haven't ordered that one!

Agreed on Hiranya, a very enjoyable album. I think what adds to the enjoyment is that it doesn't outstay its welcome - 31 minutes and it is out. Up there with Hodosan, Somei... and Anicca for me.
I can't tell you what the Tempi / Matatabi is like because I do not own a record player right now!

I bought Tempi/Matatabi today at Los Apson? store. Really gorgeous design. I also got Birds Vol.7 recently. I'm a bit too tired to write about it now, but let's just say that it's my favourite release from the birds series so far. I really had a lot of of fun with this cd - Akita uses the drums in a lot more different ways than usual and he also seems to focus more on his Synthi A again.
Cheers from Tokyo

Lovely place, I lived there for seven years. Glad you are enjoying! Yes, the 7" is lovely. As for Vol. 7, it certainly looks different to the other volumes, simply due to the number of tracks. I just ordered it...

Cool, seven years? I admire you. In which area did you live? So, can you still speak Japanese?
Yeah, Vol7 is definitely different. You'll notice it as soon as the first song starts - this one sounds really fresh imo compared to the last volume. Song 2 and 3 sound to me like harsher versions of merzbeat with live drums.

I can still speak a very little Japanese, only a very little though. It is surprising how quickly you lose it! I used to live in an area of Tokyo called Den- En Chofu ( sp? ). I loved it, hope to return someday!

Today - 13 JB # 7 - On first listen I really enjoyed it. I agree, Hal, Pigeon Walk 1 with the straight beats, very reminiscent of Somei... track one ( forget the title ). For me though, the highlight was Wind Of Pain - very old skool, to me at least. I see Volume 8 is already ready to go, according to Wikipedia, of all places! Kokuchou - Also in the mail today, Merzbow Plays Smegma.

What do you think of M plays S..I found it totally unenjoyable. Thrench Orthic I must admit, it seemed better than it actually was. I have only listened to it once though. I think I preferred Smegma's track! Today in the post I got another Tamago. A whim bid on eBay resulted in me netting it for £6, perfect condition. I had actually forgotten I had bid, so result!

Nice, Mercurated doesn't show up that often on ebay. Also, are there any releases comparable to M plays S? Still haven't heard that one and it's not that high on my buy-list.
Japanese Birds 8: Kokuchou arrived today. Cover art is beautiful as always, but I won't be able to listen to it for a while. Still have to listen to a lot of records from my recent Japan trip.

Yeah. Mercurated is actually really damn good! I was very impressed!
That and Vibractrance have been rocking my world this past couple weeks.
13 JB 7 I enjoy alot too, but after 7 volumes, I am finding them all a little repetitive. I want to be taken by surprise!
Merzbow & The Haters arrived in the week too, and that is fucking brilliant. One of his best collaborations I have heard, actually!

Kokuchou arrived today, checking it out now.
Enjoying it, but I am looking forward to a Merzbow release without drums again, I have to admit!
Still, only on Black Swan at the moment, so shouldn't be too hasty.
