Oh, man....I was at one of the masada shows at the Knit when Zorn freaked out because he thought the cameras were on (apparently it was the day that he found out they were streaming their rehearsals and already had a blow-up about it). was kind of funny in a way. The group still absolutely smoked though.
I guess I understand his point about taping, but at the same time I don't know that I buy the theory that it hurts income. People are going to buy the studio recordings regardless. Most of the people who are apt to buy official live recordings would still but it over a so-so quality bootleg. Unless he's of the opinion of some musicians that a live show is a moment in time and will never be replicated and therefore should not be recorded. But that would probably not be true since he has put out live recordings himself.
His perogative anyway whether I agree or not.

Illegal or immoral... but thanks to tapers people who could never attend these concerts can listen to it.
Especially important if its about projects that never got recorded in albums like Bladerunner (Zorn/Frith/Lombardo/Laswell ?)

Agree. Real fans will go for both official and unofficial recordings. And the latter are welcome if the projects don't exist in an official release. Houdini De Sade, Patton/Zorn/Lombardo, Torture Garden... we could name quite a few. I honestly still don't get why he doesn't release some vintage live material from the 90's
