Seems like the Merzbox is quite an experience. Wish I had disposable income to justify its purchase.

Right now I'm listening to Magnesia Nova for the first time. Absolute killer record; so far it's my favourite Merz recording from 1995. The booklet is also pretty nice.

mag nova didn't do it for me.. green wheels packs a stronger punch (tho not that great in itself) and pinkream has more bubbly appeal (tho again not that great in itself). 1996 is where the shit is! pulse demon, mercurated, oersted, and to a lesser (tho greater than the 95 album's case) akasha, electric salad and spiral honey..

tho the mag nova sleeve is one of the more generous/informative ones out there..

I have to disagree with Guneral, Pink Ream is up there in the top ten. It really is what Merzbow is all about, very technical noise rather than noise for noise sakes.

I just don't find the musical content on Pinkream as persuasive as on say Oersted, Pulse, Mercurated.. it's a good point about the 'technical' side to the album, but this makes me also think of say 'technical death metal' and how in 9 out of 10 times the 'technical' aspect overshadows the actual musical content, if you know what i mean. i'd be inerested to know which moments in particular hold the album up for you thrench. sure it's a nice listen, in particular w some nice tonal variety (which always makes merzbow stand out from 'noise for noise sake' artists where the sound if often very grey throughout), i just don't think it's one of his best structured pieces..

I find it hard to justify why I particularly like Pinkream, it's just a CD that seems to be right, everything just sits very nicely (I'm not gonna win any arguments with that one am I).
Whilst we're on the subject of structure probably the finest structured Merzbow CD is 1930, for me this is almost a modern classical piece (and please don't ask me to explain, I don't think I can) it almost feels composed. However, for me Pulse Demon, although seen as a classic, if not THE classic Merzbow CD, never really holds me. In fact I can't even recall any moments of it in my head (I must revisit it tomorrow!!).

Today I'm mostly listening to Scene which turned up yesterday, along with Early Computer Works. I have to say that I am getting on with Scene very well, I've also have one listen to ECW it's very choppy but might work with further listens.
