"The Black Glove" soundtracks really are a sort of one time only experience. I've listened to them through once, just before I went to sleep a few weeks ago through headphones. It was a highly stimulating experience, but its not the kind of thing you can listen to more casually. You've really got to tune in to that kind of stuff. The music for romance series consists of only 4 albums right? (Music for Children, Taboo and Exile... ur... IAO and... oh ,the Gift?) 3 albums officially, although according to this guy - www.omnology.com/zorn01.html, he seems to think IAO is part of the Music Romance series, but from what I can gather this is based on packaging alone? It basically comes in a slipcase ala the other volumes of the MR series, but this is the only similarity IMO. He does also mention something relating to the similarities in music styles that are apparent in IAO and all the MR series, but I dont buy it totally personally. Nothing relating to this theory anywhere else, Tzadik included, so..... Ah right.

Invitation To A Suicide (DVD) Cool. Id really like to see all the films Zorn scored, but in a way it could ruin the magic of the music, if you get my meaning? Especially really dense pieces, like A Lot Of Fun For The Evil One, it almost doesnt need pictures to accompany it yknow? Let us know how that is anyway, out of all his scores Invitation looks like quite a good movie....( I cant see myself enjoying Latin Boys Go To Hell too much, but thats just personal preference... ) Yeah it was okay not bad but now when I hear the score I think of the movie. I had to see it, but curiosity can kill the cat. The music score stands on it's own as a beauty that nothing can change.

Awaiting my next order in the mail now.... Well, I can vouch for all the Zorn albums, they are all good. I dont have the 15th Ann. version of TBG though, I just have the old Nonesuch version. I am certain you will enjoy them all anyway. Kihlstedt looks interesting, I keep hearing good things about Sleepytime Gorilla Museum too. I have some Charming Hostess stuff not the record which she plays on though. Youll have to let us know how this is when it arrives!

I've seen Carla Kihlstedt play three times (Sleepytime Gorilla Museum, Book of Knots, and an improv thing at the Stone). She is great. 2 Foot Yard also has Shahzad Ismaily who I really like as well...

The 2 Foot Yard CD turned out to be OK, I didn't love it - wasn't as good as the other three I ordered, for sure... (although that is pretty tough competition!) I only listened to it once so far, I've been too busy to be listening to lots of music Just picked up the new Book of Angels CD "Volac" with Erik Friedlander yesterday... listened to a few tracks so far, I like what I've heard.

Although I have... something like 80-90 Zorn CDs, I still have to fill my collection... so lately I'm focusing more on the Book of Angels, here is my latest order, which will be delivered in 2 weeks - Spillane (the one released on Nonesuch, as I already own Tzadik's Godard/Spillane) - Astaroth - Azazel - Painkiller : Talisman Volac has yet to be released in France, due to hit the streets on 10/05.

Its the other way round for me, I have the Nonesuch Spillane but am yet to get the Tzadik version. I really want it for Godard, but it feels kinda silly having to buy Spillane for a second time...... The rest of those are all killer man. Especially Talisman. My god.....

I was just wondering, where did you buy your Zorn CDs, well, mostly ? I'm curious about the non US residents (like me) 'cause in France (even if we have Orkhestra, the official distributor), those are truly expensive. All brand new Tzadik releases are above 34 $ for one single disc, I don't even speak of the double ones, what a shame. For the newest releases, I order via Orkhestra website, but for the oldest ones, I prefer amazon marketplace, much cheaper ! Yet, I wonder how amazon marketplace sellers manage to sell Tzadik cds this low !

I buy pretty much all of mine from Downtown Music Gallery. My local store is pretty hopeless, and if I'm going to buy online, I'd rather support DMG than Amazon.com or some other site. (I also try to stop by whenever I'm in NYC, which is once every month or two).
Paying $34 for a new disc is crazy! I think I paid $14 for Volac...

yeah, sure. I wish I lived in NYC or at least in the US regarding the cultural products. I sometimes order from DMG but with Handling/Shipping costs, and the wait... it's not worth it. Maybe a bit.

If it makes you feel better I often wished I lived in Europe or NYC for the concerts :-) Boston/Cambridge isn't such a great music scene for my taste...

Im in the UK, and I can thoroughly recommend DMG. They are quick, and there are never any problems sending here to the UK. i sometimes receive packages quicker from them than from ones here in the UK.
