John Zorn: Filmworks XXIII: el General [#7373]
Eleven cues recorded for a striking documentary focusing on the life of controversial Mexican dictator Plutarco Elias Calles who was called everything from a nunburner to the father of modern Mexico. Beautiful and dramatic, the music is scored for guitar, marimba, accordion/piano and bass and subtly draws upon Mexican, Spanish, minimalist and soundtrack traditions. Zorn’s fifth film score in as many months is a pure delight. Moody and exotic music for a creative and revealing film dealing with truth and the complexity of history!

I'm guessing Ribot, Wollesen, Burger and Dunn.

I'm guessing Ribot, Wollesen, Burger and Dunn. You're right except for Dunn : it will be Greg Cohen.

Got my copy, initial impressions are quite positive-- Ribot is just a beast on this one.

got mine yesterday. love the piano trio tune the most, and ribot never disappoints.
interesting to read that he wrote two albums worth and stuff he didn't use will end up on O'o and other stuff in the future.

ahah, look at this text written by Ribot on his website :
A note on the Tzadik Record liner notes for the CD "El General"
The liner notes for the Tzadik records release "El General", John Zorn filmworks contains criticism of director Natalia Almada's decision to exclude some of the film material John composed and recorded. The liner notes quote me as supporting John's criticism. Although I have no criticism of the music itself, this quote reflects neither my statements nor my actual point of view on its usage/nonusage in the film. John has acknowledged this, and promised to change the liner notes in all future printings of the cd. However, while the current liner notes remains in distribution, I'm posting the following correction: I fully respect and support Natalia Almada's judgement as to what compositions are appropriate for her film. -Marc Ribot

Oops ;D
It did seem a bit awkward in the liner notes, you could just imagine how it was to be the mutual friend who brought those two together.
