Long out of print, John Zorn's News For Lulu is being reissued by HatHut Records with digital remastering and a bonus track, an alternate version of Melonie.
For those that have not heard this magnificent tribute to the hard bop era by Zorn with Bill Frisell (guitar) and George Lewis (trombone) - do yourself a favour and run, don't walk, to your nearest retailer of fine music.

My copy shipped from Downtown Music Gallery... love the record, but the old CD is screaming for remastering.

It arrived today-- first report on sound is that it's fantastic, though I've not given it thorough dissection.
The liner notes claim that we'll see More News for Lulu in 2009.

well, I got my copy a while ago and, as I had never listened to this record, I cannot tell the difference regarding the remastering, but I'm quite amazed at how the three of them manages to groove without any rythmic section.
by the way, mikestack, I sent you a PM on july 6, but you didn't reply, I guess you didn't notice ?
