For those that have both and have lived with them for a little while, does either one of them shine stronger? Or are they both kinda the same album??

They are both very good albums though. Its difficult to say, I mean Higanbana is pretty consistent throughout, whereas track 2 on Here is worth buying it for in itself..... Personally speaking, Here hit home with me a little more. You know you are gonna get them both anyway though, right?Ha!

the 'both kinda the same album' is something which is quite apparent throughout the output, often he does albums in tandem (i've heard a theory that some certain albums come out the same single recording sessions as others). Recently for example, v similar albums are SCSI Duck & Cycle, Scene & Dust, Metamorph & Bloody Sea, Zophorus & Coma..
ANYWAY, I managed to get a hold of Higanbana just yesterday, have heard it a few times, and it is a very strong album, MUCH better than Peace for Animals. Certainly more focused in its attack as in track 2, and track 1 is a very well structured piece. It is quite unrelenting also which is nice! There is certainly a stronger sense of looping than on Peace. Makes me all the more keen to know how Here compares.

Today I listened to Here for the first time and so far I clearly prefer Higanbana over it. I don't know, the first and the third track on Here just sounded to me like meaningless outtakes from much longer sessions. They just didn't feel very involving to me. However, track 2 is certainly nice. It sounds like Akita used many different processed field recordings on this one. Combined with Akita's recent analogue sound, this makes for quite some interesting and unusual sounds. Also, I believe that track 2 works perfectly as an auditory version of the album cover.
I'll probably give this one a few more spins, maybe Track 1 and 3 just need a little time to sink in. I think it's interesting to note that Here was composed around the same time as Peace for Animals.

i often wonder if ppl listen to their merzbow discs.. listening to 'Here' for first time now. lots of track 1 is a word for word lift from trck 2 of FID's first disc.. pointless.. i enjoyed that FID track, now it's been rendered that little more redundant.. track 2 is great stuff, kicks the ass of peace for animals, the descending motif from houjoue/sphere pops its head in at around 18mins.. as do many other snippets from older discs, in tasteful dabs. the album would have done well to start with track 3.. it's a punchy cloudburst, we haven't had an album begin like that for quite some time. once again, it dips into the same FID track (as the first track did), tho only in passing reference. where it ended could've been the start of an extended sequence w looped rhythms. then track 2 would've followed as a stunning closer. there was no need for track 1..
