New Rap is one of my all time favourite albums. Fucking incredible music incorporating all my favourite musical elements: excess angularity, jarring dissonance, ugly melodies, blasts of noise, intense improvisation, and a sense of humour.
Opinions? And recommendations welcome on similar albums...
And good news:
Haino Keiji/Yoshida Tatsuya: Uhrfasudhasdd [#7265] A new recording by a legendary duo! Following up on their acclaimed CD New Rap, two of the Tokyo Underground ’s most extreme artists get together again for another twisted exploration of the outer limits of sound. Performing on voice, guitars, drums, keyboards, samplers, theremin and more, Haino and Yoshida take full advantage of studio techniques and digital editing in creating this bizarre and masterful suite of songs and instrumentals. Ghostly, intense and howlingly funny!

I have +-20 CDs with/from T.Yoshida, but this one is not in my collection. Not for long I think. :-)

Nothing is simular to "New Rap". My absolutaly favourite is the first Koenjihyakkei "Hundret Sights Of Koenji". It is released the first time outside of Japan this month! I saw the original CD this year for 100,-Eur ! OUCH. www.skingraftrecords.com/news_desk.htmlVery good is also the weird and fast freejazzcore album "Karakany" by Yoshida & Zabrodzki. vivo.pl/label/zabrodzki_yoshida.htm (4 mp3 and 1 video examples) Very free improv rock you can hear on Derek and the RUINS "Saisoro" on Tzadik, also good is "Episome" with Yoshida/Otomo/Laswell. His solo stuff on the compilation "Magaibutsu" is also worth to hear it but difficult to get the CD.

I've been thinking about picking up Derek's Ruins collaboration for quite some time.

I've been thinking about picking up Derek's Ruins collaboration for quite some time. The Tzadik release, Saisoro, is great man, Id recommend it. However their Thojinbo album, on the Paratactile label, is alot better.....Fuck knows where youd get that nowadays though.... Thoughts on Nani Nani King? Im still not convinced after years of having it....

I'll let you know when it arrives. I'm excited. The samples I've heard have been great.

You'll enjoy it, I'm sure. Its an incredible album.
Listened to Nani Nani once or twice now. Not my favourite Zorn/Eye work, but definitely enjoyable. First 2 tracks had me in tears with laughter. I really like Bad Hawkwind too.

Btw, an other "must have" album is the latest release from Yoshida Tatsuya on Label AurisMedia ( www.myspace.com/aurismedia ). It´s called Live in the Head, a 70min long live improvisation album together with Igor Krutogolov (Kruzenshtern & Parohod / Karate) and Assif Tsahar. A mix between Painkiller/NewRap/Ruins! I got this CD on a Kawabata/Yoshida concert last week. It was really great.
