Does anyone have this? Must be a ridiculous amount of noise. Skuj has it, he comes on here sometimes. Ive often been tempted, but even I cant justify the price! Even at half the price I just cant part with that amount of money.....I would love it though, it looks like a horrible lump of noise, thats for sure.........grrr......

Yeah. $440 is a fuck load of cash, but it looks so enticing. I'd love to hear some really early Merzbow.

Yeah. $440 is a fuck load of cash, but it looks so enticing. I'd love to hear some really early Merzbow. Age Of 369 / Chant 2 is a great example, and alot cheaper than shelling out for a Merzbox! It gets ragged on by some efficionados, but I like it. You picked another good early Merz in Music For Bondage Vol 1 too.....

Will look out for that one then. This Merzbow-interest is going to be very expensive... just like Zorn and Zappa.

Yeah, I got it. And I have to say I am atounded / floored by it's monumentally high quality throughout. It's easy to believe that a 50CD collection must have tons of filler/throwaways. This is so not the case with The Merzbox. I listen to one of the CDs most days. It really is a hugely diverse collection of sound/styles. Every CD is different. I've been through it several times now, and each time brings surprises. I'll never completely grasp/absorb it all. William Bennett would say this is a problem - not being able to actually assimilate the "music" into your brain. But for me, that is one of the great joys of this absolutely impeccable collection. Yep, $440 US is a lot, and I'm not rich. But damn, less than $9 per CD? That's a steal, especially when the CDs are so good!

And, it comes with extras, like a cool shirt and stickers and such....plus a book, which I think is totally fucking great. (Can I say "fuck" here?) The book alone is priceless to a serious Merzfan, in my opinion....it's superb. Roger at Extreme should be knighted for this.

It brings us back to Zappa / Piano People / Lumpy Gravy / Civilization Phaze III - Spider: We can get our strength up by making some music John: That's right Monica: Yeah . . . yeah John: But the thing is, you know what? Spider: What? John: We don't even understand our own music Spider: It doesn't, does it matter whether we understand it? At least it'll give us . . . strength John: I know but maybe we could get into it more if we understood it Spider: We'd get more strength from it if we understood it? John: Yeah Spider: No, I don't think so, because -- see I think, I think our strength comes from our uncertainty. If we understood it we'd be bored with it and then we couldn't gather any strength from it John: Like if we knew about our music one of us might talk and then that would be the end of that
