"Continuing in the tradition of his popular album The Gift, Zorn again combines a lifetime of musical passions—world music, movie soundtracks, jazz, minimalism, exotica, funk, surf rock and more—to create a vibrant and multifaceted album of instrumental fairy tales. Masterfully performed by the all-star players from Electric Masada, The Dreamers is a project of breathtaking variety and will attract listeners of all backgrounds and ages. Bathed in a lush package created by the acclaimed artist and exclusive Tzadik graphic designer Chippy, and accompanied by a sheet of collectable character stickers, The Dreamers is one of Zorn's most beautiful and appealing projects. Seductive lyricism, hypnotic grooves, catchy hooks and romantic moods from this genre-bashing master of surprise." Message from Heung-Heung "Chippy" www.myspace.com/heung_heungRelease date is February 2008! YEAH! ;D

The Gift meets Electric Masada? With a sheet of collectible stickers? Awesome.
I read this post, got up, went into my boss's office and asked if I could take a long weekend in February when they're debuting The Dreamers in Brooklyn... he said yes. :-D

John Zorn: O'o [#7376] Named for an extinct Hawaiian bird whose delightful song will sadly never be sung again, O'o is the exotic follow up to The Dreamers, one of Zorn's most popular and appealing musical projects. Featuring the same dynamic band of masters from Zorn's inner circle, O'o presents twelve more lyrical and adventurous instrumentals combining world music, surf, exotica, soundtracks, easy listening, minimalism and more into a fabulous and exciting new music. Beautifully packaged in original artwork by Chippy, this is charming and adventurous music passionately performed by a downtown super group.

Just finished my first listen of Ipos. I know not everyone is as much a Dreamers fan as I am, but this was really love at first sight for me. (OK, love at first listen - at first sight, I thought "wow, that's REALLY orange.")
Track 3, Galizur, I recognized immediately from the Electric Masada show in Rome 2007. It has a very distinctive bassline that I really like.
The album doesn't necessarily scream "Masada" to me, but I think there is more minor-key emphasis than the other Dreamers albums, maybe a bit of a darker sound, less of the "carefree day in the tropical sun" exotica feel. The piano is a little Rain-Horsey at times. And there's some good surf guitar with a little grit in it.
Hope you all enjoy it as much as I am.

That is about what I am anticipating so glad to hear I am on the right track. Mine shipped yesterday so I should have it today or tomorrow. Cannot wait to hear this. This band is 3 for 3 with me to date with albums and I've yet to hear a bad show from them. This just gives them that much more material to pull from. ;D

The last two comments look promising. The Dreamers ensemble is such a great lineup that I can't wait hearing them playing the Masada songbook. I think that it will smooth the sharpy edges of the typical Masada sound but not too much. Or, from the opposite point of view, it will spice up the at-times-humdrum exotica atmosphere. Curious to hear more about Ipos and to hear it myself.

Finally got my copy today. Through one listen and I can see this one is going to be a major addiction and a longtime favorite. This is precisely what I was hoping for in a Dreamers' Masada album. Marc's playing to open the album on Tirtael reminded me of his guesting with Rashanim on Bahir on Masada Rock. That tone... Throughout Ipos there are highlights aplenty for the Ribot junkie like myself, like all of Qalbam which is reminiscent of, though easier to spell than Anulikwatsyl from the first Dreamers album. There is much beautiful interplay from one of the tightest bands Zorn has assembled to date. Jamie Saft is fast becoming a favorite pianist/keyboardist. It definitely feels like a Dreamers' album (ie. lush) but it is also clearly in the Masada musical family. ps. The extra little insert piece of artwork from Heung-Heung Chin was a nice touch as well. It's as beautiful as the music.

easier to spell than AnulikwatsylI'm pretty sure every song in my music collection falls into this category... OK, maybe not Djidjzd.
