i'm heading off towards Marciac tomorrow morning (saturday) anyone will be at the Masada night on monday? I had it in my mind all the time, but I can´t drive the 1000km now for personal reasons. The unique Willisau concert with Zorn is in 4 weeks, I will be there for sure. Have a good time in Marciac, Blackmud!

The concerts in Manhattan, damn, why is New York in the USA. Very expensive show on 2. September, $75 ! Are all concerts in the States in this price category? (btw, the concert list is updated, incl. links) blackmud: How was it in Marciac? Hope you had a good time!

haha...where else could New York be? if not for NY, Zorn's US appearances would be fewer and further between I would think.
Generally the prices are nowwhere near that bad. I have a feeling it's because of Lou Reed. I have not seen a show at this venue yet as it's just recently opened. I haven't looked into the Zorn/Laswell/Graves show, but I bought tix for The Master Musicians of Jajouka there (before the US tour was postponed) and it was only about $25US. New York is getting absurdly priced, though, even for smaller acts as the real estate prices are forcing clubs to jack up their ticket prices to stay afloat.

just got home after a few lovely days chilling in Southwest France (by the way, if you have never been in that corner of the planet, you're missing out on fantastic places and very nice people, highly recommended!!) Marciac!!! well, Holgerregloh, i though that the first ever Acoustic Masada Sex-tet set was definitely something unique & unmissable and i was blessed to be there.. the (very hot) evening started with Uri Caine in top form, i must say that the Moloch material grew very slowly on me from the first listening on cd, then quite liked his set in Rome last year, but last monday in Marciac Uri was ripping that steinway grandpiano.. reinventing the material at an incredible speed, with his rhythmic and percussive style. his set was very generous, Uri was sweating buckets and the audience was delighted and very warm, called him back for encores twice.. i was far back in the marquee, was great to see him smiling while the audience was clapping, then onto the next song after a few seconds the audience in Marciac turned out to be the nicest surprise, more on this later the String Trio started with a highly energetic Tahah and then played a beautiful set of Book of Angels songs.. Friedlander and Feldman in great form, i really enjoyed especially the exchanges in solos between them that Zorn was calling, something like first 4 bars each then 2 then 1 then half bar then all together.. at moments Greg Cohen seemed a little fatigued by the heat, but he managed to give us a fantastic short solo towards the end of the set at this point i must thank Clare: during the first two sets she spotted empty seats in the first row and went up to the security guy asking if it was possible to seat there instead, so i ended up watching the first Masada Sextet in front row! and what a set!! while the Acoustic Masada set last year in Rome seemed quite close to perfection, (and i remember news circulating about last summer shows being the last ones with that band) i think the addition of Uri Caine and Cyro Baptista to the acoustic ensemble is a great move. while i was expecting mainly new material, Zorn brought the band back to the beginning of Masada, so we heard great versions of Hath-Arob, Jair, Beeroth (Fantastic Baron solos as always) they played two of three of the new tunes that i know from recent shows, but the bulk of the show was Book I material.. Zorn gave good welcoming space to Caine, Baptista and the others, balancing all the elements like a real alchemist does if this ensemble will record the Book II songs that they have been playing in live shows over the past 2 years we're in for a real treat.. (but official live recordings would be just as welcome) the audience in Marciac is probably the warmest i have ever been part of Zorn dedicated 'la premiere foi avec cette ensemble, c'est pour voux' - excuse my French the band was called back for encores 4 times!!, playing great versions of Lilin, Rikbiel and another tune i never heard before.. the last two times they came out just to salute the audience, then they decided to play another one. unbelievable! the way the audience responded to the festival speaker announcing the concert by saying something like "Masada which represents ultimate resistance against tiranny and domination' was very strong and significant feel quite blessed to have been there, and hopefully the shows will turn up on the web soon for the enjoyment whoever missed them
