Three more announced, actually! Don't tempt him, he might be tired... Aside from Zion80, I seem to have picked the ones you didn't like - I have Psychomagia (which I liked), Hermetic Organ (ditto), and Eyvind Kang, which was a mixed bag for me. It was growing on me after a couple of listens but I haven't gone back to it yet. The rest I haven't heard... hopefully in a couple of months my life will have calmed down a bit and I'll be buying more new music (and it will help to be in the same city as DMG...)

I like In the hall of mirrors a lot, quite a few surprises (I was expecting all the tracks to sound more or less the same). Adramelech and Leaves on their way. I have high expectations of the new Gnostic trio (love all their releases) and the Dream Membrane (spoken word? Laswell+Zorn? )

Wow, people posting!
Re the new releases, I'm yet to buy Adramalech though I plan to soon. Myth & Myopiea I think is fantastic. Definitely my favourite so far this year.
Agreed about Leaves... - it reminded me of Alhambra at times too. Definitely more sedate than the previous Nova albums, but it's just as entertaining. I hope Zorn doesn't continue writing this way for them though, I certainly prefer the more frenetic music of Dreamachines, and this "nice" stuff is more than catered for elsewhere in Zorn's ouvre. Wolleson is on fire!
In The Hall Of Mirrors I enjoy too. Tyshawn Sorey is the man. His solo albums are worth checking out if you haven't heard them already. He is an absolute master. Great news that he is also featured on another of Zorn's upcoming albums.
I'm not too fussed over the upcoming Gnostic album. Their previous two, although lovely and brilliantly played seldom get airings here. Too safe!

I also loved Myth, more so for the fact that some pieces where recorded at a concert I attend to What are your thoughts on the change of the classical cds from.the Composers to the Archival series? Improved booklets and artwork, though I loved the way the Composer series had an unifying design, and I loved the Lemma and Music and its double design.

Myth is indeed pretty special, but it's difficult to say that one of these three classical releases is any more essential than the others. True, you get 'Pandora's Box', which I suspect is very dear to Zorn's heart, and 'Missa Sine Voces' is a great crossover piece for those of us following his acoustic projects, but I think that equally compelling cases can be made for the works on The Alchemist and (although I think that 'Kol Nidre' and 'Contés de Fées' come close to filler) the other two orchestral works on Fragmentations are very significant as well. I find it very difficult to choose among the classical recordings.
I think that moving the classical pieces into the main series of his recordings is a very good decision. It's odd for a composer who has spent his entire career on unexpected genre contrasts to partition off one genre in the way that the Composer series did. Also, I often think that there is a definite pleasure to the relationship between the packaging and the contents on Zorn discs which can be undermined by too 'indicative' a sleeve. Sitting down with the CD package is part of the wtf? process which always attends the first audition of any Zorn project.

See, I'm the opposite. I don't really care for physical CDs at all nowadays. Of course Tzadik releases always looks awesome, but personally for me it is only about the music. For years I collected and archived CDs, until the literally took over my house. Now I appreciate the artwork and packaging, but just choose not to buy it.

I received both Adramelech and Leaves a couple of days ago, both sound amazing, but for the moment Leaves is on repeat all day long...
Are you guys planning on buying Valentine's day? Will Sorey make it much more different than Enigmata to justify another 15 bucks? Mrrrhm...

Not sure if adding drums to it will make it an easier listen, but it's certainly a tasty thought. I wonder how TS has gone about adding the parts to it? Left to his own devices or guided / scored by JZ?

Oh, and Adramelech is awesome. Definitely one of the more exciting BOA volumes. Listened twice now and love it.

Has anyone here heard The Testament Of Solomon? Hard to tell from the excerpts on Amazon, is it worth checking out if I wasn't overly fond of the previous Gnostic albums?

I just bought it at DMG but I still haven't listened to it. I will when I return to Spain, for the moment I'm too busy attending concerts at the Village Vanguard..

So besides Temple of solomon, recent purchases in NYC include Dictee, Redbird, Aguares, and a bunch of other stuff, especially by Jamie Saft. It will take a while till I get to hear everything...
