Just seen this on the Blossoming Noise site - Merzbow, Micro Kosmos LP+BOOK Cool! I wonder if the book contains just images or if there are also accompanying notes by Akita. I guess I'll wait a bit before I buy that new Vivo Records album... Arijigoku didn't sound that interesting to me after a few repeated listens.

Nevermind. Ordered it, received it and listened to it. I think it sounds like a superior version of Arijigoku. Peace Pigs Part 1 and 2 follow in a similar vein to Arijigoku Part 1-4. However, contrary to the Arijigoku tracks, the drums sound much cleaner and there's more variation going on. For example, halfway through Part 1 the spacey sounds of the EMS Synthi A join the track, while Part 2 seems to employ some doomy rock sounds somewhere in the background of the mix. The last track, The Joy of Soy, is surprisingly catchy with a straight rhythm running throughout the entire track. The drums on this one kinda remind me of Promotion Man from the Merzbeat album. Contrary to the other two tracks, the noises on this one sound very subdued. It's a really nice tune, though I think it's a little too long with a running time of 18 minutes. The entire album is around 52 minutes long.
All in all, I think Hodosan is a nice album. It's not my favourite release in 2008, but I think it's much better than Arijigoku.

Did you pay 18 quid for it? It strikes me as a bit of a piss take asking 18 for a CD!!
Thrench
I guess that my only Merzbow buying this year will be the 13 birds series, Too many other CD's to buy as well.
Just a quick one whilst i'm on here, I'm thinking of going to see Pain Jerk. Anyone have any ideas what I should be listening to by him before setting off?
Thrench out

It is about £15 on eBay though, I see..... My original post on this was from the Amazon website, hence the £18! Can't help with Pain Jerk really mate, only heard a few bits here and there, from compilations, etc.....

I ordered the wooden box version of Kareha/Dead Leaves from Punkkeinrock. Seems like very nice people. I'll probably buy Tombo as soon as I found out wether Fellacoustic also ship to people outside the US. The press release suggests that there's a lot of EMS Synthie A on this disc, which I'm always fond of. Anyone checking out the Protean World LP? I believe it was recorded around the same time as Arijigoku.
Thrench, Pain Jerk is great. Check out the collab CD with John Wiese, Mental Peace Liberation Front. Please tell us, how the gig was!
