Well, what can I say.
One hell of an evening. Four bands in all, however, I missed Totten Glass who were on first (too busy eating in Wagamama's). Second on was Carlos Giffoni. I have to admit that he was only ok, I did feel that I could have produced something as good. I didn't dislike it, but I did feel that it was very linear with little going on. It seemed like lets start a sample, now lets run it through a synth and change some of the settings. now lets make it vibrate a bit...goodnight.
Third on was the Corsano/Flowers duo. I really didn't know what to expect. Well I can now say that they were fucking out of this world. Absolutely brilliant. Very hypnotic and slightly indian with the drones and things. Just ordered their CD.
Finally up was Merzbow. This is the second time I've seen him. The first time he was just sat at his laptop twiddling and things (still a huge sound and very exciting), however, this time it was very hands on. Set up the sample groove on the laptop and then went on to produce some massive noise with some weird homemade one spring guitar and contact mic type thingy. Loads of peddles and things. Then came the even weirder baked bean can/therimin. I really can't review what I saw and heard. All I can say was that he is and always will be the god of noise. Absolutely blows away many of the other noise acts I've seen. Even better than KK Null and he's pretty well up there with the gods as well.
Two pics to follow but Flickr is being a cow this evening so tomorrow if I have time.

Once I found it, the ULU is a great venue! The Cold Spring stall was very busy, but did manage to get my free cd pretty quickly ( The exclusive Merzbow track is Yellowfeed-Mix 1, 14:33 )..... Satori - Kinda enjoyed them, got things going well, although maybe outstayed their welcome by about five minutes. Not bad though.... Sutcliffe Jugend - Enjoyed them! They really put alot of energy into things, and got the crowd going ( watching people "dance" to noise is something else... ) Whitehouse comparisons aside, I guess they were good. It was hard at times not to cringe when Tompkins was doing his high voice and shouting obscenities, however... Merzbow just casually walks onto the stage and starts setting his stuff up, like he was cleaning the kitchen or something....A brief exit, then comes back on and blows the fucking place up. I was near the front, centre stage, so it was a real experience for me. I wanted to feel the noise, and feel it I did.....He used that same home made guitar / metal object that you mentioned Thrench, as well as the tin cans / contact mics etc......So, I would gesture to say it was the same / simlar set....Lasted about an hour. Big cheer, quick bow, and gone. Rush to get train home....

Strange you should mention Whitehouse, because they were both at the Croft as audience, not playing (although they were playing a few evening previous, didn't see them though).

Cool.I definitely agree about the only way to experience Merzbow is in a live setting.Indeed truly unbelievable.Seeing him live, and the acquisition of the Merzbox earlier this month has completely changed my perspective on his work....And Im only 12 fucking discs in!
