I have a special love for the version of "Hazor" on disc 3... Totally. Hazor has to be one of my favourite B.K. / Masada pieces too. Especially fiery versions on the Birthday discs too....

I was very thrilled that, the only time I've ever seen BK live, they played my two favorite pieces back to back... Hazor and Kisofim.

Today I've been listening to my Erik Satie/Man Is The Bastard playlist. Nothing like alternating quiet piano music with powerviolence.

Good to see Messiaen's name on this post! If someone is getting into Messiaen, I'd recommend giving the Turangalila Symphony a shot in its entirety a good couple of times. It's quite an easy work to fall in love with, so rich, varied and exhuberant. The entire Vingt Regards for solo piano heard in one shot is quite an unmatched listening experience. The underrated work that I absolutely love is the Transfiguration oratorio from the late 60s. This was Messiaen's reconcilation of his modernist exploration since the Turangalila (1948) with the harmonic language of the Turangalila and before.
I often wonder if Messiaen's music is more of a dead end or an avennue forward. Both cases would testify to his genius - either for finding the last possible solution with tonal-sounding triadic harmony, or for inspiring the multitudes since him.
As for my listening at the moment - Merzbow's Black Bone Pt. 3 from Turmeric. Prior to that, Noisembryo from the same fellow.

I saw Vingt Regards performed at Christchurch Cathedral in Oxford this summer. Absolutely awesome piece of music.

Lucky to have seen the Vingt Regards! Let's hope there wasn't an interval! The last time I saw them live there was no interval, which is really the best way to experience it as a whole. Messiaen composed them in like 6 months, which is just incredible. You know that's like more material than Merzbow, often considered one of the most prolific out there, has offered in the last 6 months. And improvisation vs. notated music..

Yeah, there was no interval. Just constant music.
