Oh hey, Papawas, don't I know you from the WH forum? Yeah, I like WH. Did a lot of listening to Racket lately. But, mostly, I have a daily merzbow fix, hahaha. I cannot stress how effing great the merzbox is. It isn't a collection of throwaways or "other stuff". Every disc is interesting, most discs are great. So, today my schedule called for discs 44 and 45.

Yeah, I was this close to buying a Merzbox, and then read a load of threads on the Yahoo! group about some of the discs being soiled with glue from the slipcases, and the packaging on individual boxes not being up to scratch, and I think that put me off. I realise not all the boxes are like that, but its a hell of a lotta money to part with, and I just havent got the courage to part with it yet! Maybe one day though!

Well, Coleman's definitely not my cup of tea at all. I only enjoy (mildly) "On the Rising of the 64 Paths", but I wouldn't recommend it with much excitement. I'm also curious about a duo album he recorded with Dave Holland (I think on DIW), but haven't heard any of it.

Have you checked out The Sonic Language of Myth? Some stuff on that is magic. "Maat" gives me the chills every time!
I find Weaving Symbolics very interesting too.
Both of them much less slap bass funky than the stuff on his website (which I like in general, though). Sonic Language of Myth sadly features some slappy kinda bass, which is quite the mood destruktor here and there, but all in all I find it a wonderful album.

I find there's something cheesy about Coleman. I generally dismiss vocals in jazz albums, and SC seems quite fond of them, and I find his rythm sections pretty stiff. I'd definitely like more freedom in his music.
