Heard good reports about that Nico album man. As for what else people are listening to, there is a thread on one of the other boards ( I think )....

However, my point was to find out what people who like Merzbow are also listen too. I can look anywhere for what any old fucking nob is listening too. I would generally expect most Merzbow listeners to have a fairly eclectic taste in music and we might actually find something new which we hadn't considered before.

Today I listened to Electric Salad, it's not one I listen to much but I always enjoy it, it's got so many different angles throughout. I then went on to listen to Cloud Cock 00 Grand. I struggle with this one, it's got to be one one of his most inaccessible CD's except for some of the earlier Merzbox CD's, that's not saying I don't like it but it's a serious listen. Having said that I'd rather listen and struggle with this than be bored to tears with something like Merzbeat (what was the point of that?). Having said that Merzbeat wasn't that bad it's just too easy listening, it's like Masami plays Coldplay. Orthic Thrench Other than Merzbow what else are people listening too? OMFG I love Cloud Cock 00 Grand. It's part of The Box. I think it was a major turning point for Masami.

today as well as Pinkream which I think is one of the greats I also listened to Islamic multi mix (mixed by my mate Glenn) truly beautiful music both Islamic and Merzbow.
If I was religious I would suggest that they both bring you nearer to god in their own way.

How quickly did you tire of Merzzow? I'd rather listen to Aha.......actually that's crap I wouldn't really but, however, Merzzow was too easy on the ears. I'm finally coming to the opinion that the Merz series is pretty shite really. I guess that it's all good that Masami is experimenting even if it is with more accesable music but it's not for me.

Orthic Thrench Know what you mean, easily among his most commercial releases. That said, ive always liked it, and all the Merz series. Yeah, they are more accessible, but that doesnt make them bad IMO....

merzzow isn't part of the merz series - different record label, nothing to do w each other. pinkream is quite a scrappy job i think, just a rushed job nothing special. a little like spiral honey in this regard, except spiral honey has more interesting shit, pointing towards what was taken up more c '98 w aqua necro and springharp etc. but again spiral w it's long time frame of recording indicates it was a series of odds and ends. kinda like merzzow to bring us back there. which makes that one stand out a little in terms of out put - i find it refreshing to return to - not many out there like it in terms of album structure.

ps. ie. important records created this so called merz series on their own - nothing to do w merzbow, except perhaps there was some encouragment in terms of important's marketing strategy, which is fine for masami cos it means more album releases - someone trying to make it for themselves meaning that he gets closer to his 1000 or so release mark

turmeric - i'm a sucker for disc 1 tracks 3 and 4, though at first i found nothing in them. driving and focused. i guess some of the freer material on turmeric just comes off a little too unconsidered.. disc 4 has never done much for me..
