Hi,
I'm in the process of copying my new Sexorama cassette boxset from RRRecords to CD, so today I've listened to 4th Innocent Victim and My night of Terror both by Merzbow.
For those that don't know Sexorama was a cassette compilation put out originally by ZSF Product but later re-released by the excellent RRRecords. It's turning out to be a cracking listen.
P.S I love the fact that if you do a spell check before sending it picks up Merzbow as a spelling mistake...cool

Listened to Pulse Demon on the way home from school. When listening to Pulse Demon I see black crows, disintegrating helicopters and vast industrial complexes seen through very black, fast, violent winds. I see yellow hyper balls. PD is very "psychedelic" to my ears. It's the Sgt Pepper-Magical Mystery Tour of Noise. Hehehe... I see where you are coming from. I suppose my visions of PD are psychedelic too, just a little darker in imagery than yellow hyper balls.

I haven't heard Bloody Sea yet, I'm in the process of picking up the older CD's first (which generally means rarer and more expensive). Ecobondage is the next on my list.
Following on from my mention of Sexorama. I also picked up Merzbows Pornoise from RRRecords recently. This is well worth picking up if you like the early Age of//Chant2 stuff. Some of the samples from this CD are also used on the Pornoise boxset.

I know what you mean, Im inclined to do that too. Trouble is, some of the newer releases dissappear quicker than you think, and all of a sudden they are nowhere to be found.....
Strangely enough, I found Ecobondage last week! Waiting for it to arrive....

Green Wheels arrived today, and is extremely enjoyable! Man, opening this thing and checking out the booklet reminded me of my old Death Metal days, god knows why. The smell, the design, etc......Great listen too. Akin to his other works around that time( Noise Embryo, Pinkream, Pulse Demon etc.... ), but more "organic" sounding to my ears. Track three, H. Penisorpenoscrotalis, Penile Orpenoscrotalhypospadia Stapphylococcusseminoma Blastomeren the highlight for me.....( and yes, I did copy and paste that title....! )

Today I listened to Merzbow recycled which I have transfered from cassette to CD and then Chant2. Chant is sooo good. Helps me stay sane in work.

I don't think Animal Mag is underrated - everyone seems to like that disc and did like it when it came out. Maybe it just doesn't get mentioned much these days, but does Fantail? And all the tracks there except the last are very good! Animal Mag admittedly was one of my favourite discs at first and it's still great, but just that bit too clinical sounding which means not dynamic enough. I appreciate the length, v epic, but a little too much in track 1 perhaps. That track went downhill a bit for me after its initial appeal. Track 2 went uphill over listens. Track 4 did majorly - I grew to love that track while at first thinking that it typified the verbose nature of the disc. Track 5 is just a straight up gem.
For reviews of Zophorus and Coma Berenices look on the launch.groups.merzbow yahoo site. Search for those 2 albums (type names in search box), you'll get reviews. Or scroll back to June 2007 and read them if you like. Coma B is quite different at first, so it seems, but it's really nothing special at the end of the day. Boring actually. Zophorus is a different story. Actually not really, it's very similar. Those albums are almost one and the same, except for the looped stuff in Coma. But there are tracks on both albums which are interchangeable. The long track of Zophorus is a gem though and thats a much better album. Merzbear and Zophorus are my picks there Wasarginson

Bloody Sea ended up being nothing special, but I like track 2.
Green Wheels unfortunately underwhelms me when I play it, despite wanting to love it. Not as strong as Noisembryo, Venereology. Pulse Demon and Pinkream etc are in a different bag all together. Then again, Sons of Slash and Brain Ticket aren't that great themselves. I must re-listen to Green Wheels (but I always say that, then listen, and find myself back where I started).
Scene track 2 is just killer. What a fuckin track!! Track 4 is pretty cool.
Ike Dada, Passage, I'm sorry I've always had a pet hate for that track. I think it's one of the worst tracks he's ever done. I can listen to basically any Merzbow track, but I would actively turn that one off. That being said, I've given my opinion on this before and asked ppl to try to get me to warm to that track, to see at least 'something' in it, which noone ever has.. I'd love for you to take that leap Was.

I'd love for you to take that leap Was. Ill try! My take on Passage anyway..... First off, I like the "industrial" feel to it, especially the intro. Now that may sound like an obvious statement, but I feel in this case the sounds really are factory like, and it sets you up for the whole piece. I will admit that, in terms of his "epic" works, it is a bit of a slow burner. It almost feels like he doesnt know where to go with things, and is clutching at straws. For the first ten minutes anyway. After the brief pause around the 9 minute mark, it seems to reinvent itself. Its from now on that I start really getting into it, simply because I like the sounds he is using. Although the randomness continues, it begins to take more of a shape than the first section. Kinda feels refreshing, as opposed to a wall of noise. Thats why I like it, because it takes a different point of view, and has a somewhat improvisational feel to the whole work. It keeps you guessing, sparse and sporadic. And thats my bottom line - I like it because he takes a different approach here! Yeah, Ill end up getting both Zophorous and Come no doubt. Merzbear I did enjoy, but on first listen maybe not as much as I did Buddha, Bird Beat or even Buta. Saying that, I never properly judge until Ive heard an album at least three times.......and with Merzbow, it takes maybe a few more listens to get properly into whats going on, IMO

Today I listened to Electric Salad, it's not one I listen to much but I always enjoy it, it's got so many different angles throughout. I then went on to listen to Cloud Cock 00 Grand. I struggle with this one, it's got to be one one of his most inaccessible CD's except for some of the earlier Merzbox CD's, that's not saying I don't like it but it's a serious listen. Having said that I'd rather listen and struggle with this than be bored to tears with something like Merzbeat (what was the point of that?). Having said that Merzbeat wasn't that bad it's just too easy listening, it's like Masami plays Coldplay.

Other than Merzbow what else are people listening too?
