I also really like these: Merzbear Disc 2 from the Merzbox (Metal Acoustic Music) Oersted Bloody Sea Houjoue These are to me the most "musical" of Merzbow's albums, and that's why I like them, which is weird because I don't usually consider Merzbow's recordings to be "music," at least not in a conventional. However, I definitely enjoy listening to them (not at ear-splitting levels though, as it seems so many seem to enjoy.) Aqua Necromancer should be in there, surely? And Music For True Romance? Day Of Seals box? There are a few musical ones out there, come to think of it...

Bassface, I think you should give Merzzow a listen, it's definitely one of Merzbow's most accessible releases so far (and also really, really good).
Btw, I'm also a big fan of Live in Geneva. At the right volume, it's great background music...

Hello! I'm new, and this is my first post here. I like Merzbow very much, and I have a big digital collection of it. Not in particular order: 1. Metal Mad Man This is my first harsh Merzalbum. It's not very intense though, very ambient soundscape on side A. When I listen to Live De-Composition From Tajima, I see winds, black snow and banshee screaming in the night. I can't imagine what an awesome live show it was. Side B is much louder, especially track 3. Highly recommended! 2. Flare Gun Words can't fully describe Flare Gun. This album is logical beginning of Venereology. Harsh and fast, Flare Gun brings to your ears painful, but enjoyable experience. Side A is short and lovely, somewhat underrated I must say. And gorgeous, giant, powerful side B! What an awesome vocal performance by Bara and Reiko A! Highly recommended. 3. Venereology Very varied album. 30 minutes of Ananga-Ranga are like 2. And very fun track is Slave New Desart. Sounds like grindcore with noise. Is Bara laughing in this track? 4. Puroland Puroland is my favourite laptop Merzalbum. The best drug from nostalgia to Venereology and Flare Gun's times. 5. Crocidura Dsi Nezumi (from Merzbox) Merzbow totally goes in percussion way here. First track is very ambient, I like listening it at night. Second is very rhythmic, good for tribal dancing. And third is harsh in the beginning and rhythmic in the end. Great album. Highly recommended. 6. Cycle This one is special. You can listen to Cycle again and again and not understand it fully. Cycle is very hard to describe. But it is very highly recommended! 7. Vratya Southward Same as Crocidura Dsi Nezumi, but with more noise and tape loops. The last Environments track is a field recording (but effected and overdubbed). Recommended. 8. Metal Acoustic Music (from Merzbox) In Metal Acoustic Music there is feeling of pointless. I feel lazy when I listen to it. That's why I like it! 9. Music For True Romance Vol.1 (from Merzbox) Creepy. Very creepy music on this Merzalbum. I had a VHS of True Romance performance a couple of ages ago, but I've lost it. I only remember that MA and TS were in white suits. I also remember first drum track, She tracks and the last Injured Imperial Soldiers Marching Song. These songs are in my memory forever. Music For True Romance is very good. Highly recommended. 10. Blues Maggots This is my first Merzbow experience. I remember how I bought it, put into my CD player... And after few minutes I thought: "Maybe this is future of music". Absolutely breathtaking stuff. Highly recommended.

Hi Scumtron,
That's a good selection. My fav from those (well the ones I've got) are Electric Salad and Dharma. ES is just really good standard Merz from that period and Dharma is a little unusual more laid back and playful.
It's been a bit quiet on here recently but stick with us, we do get going (sometimes!).

Hello. Noob here.
Thought I'd kick it off by contributing to the ten best. Feel free to dissect.
1. Batztoutai With Material Gadgets 2. Venereology 3. Aqua Necromancer 4. Animal Magnetism 5. Sphere 6. Merzzow 7. 1930 8. 24 Hours: A Day Of Seals 9. Amlux 10. Tentacle
I'm very much into his early 2000s period. Particularly Animal Magnetism which I find gets sorely overlooked.
Some of the old 7"s from the 90s are also choice.
And I love the Maldoror collab. I saw him and Patton in Melbourne doing a noise/improv thing which was pretty impressive (although alot of the Patton 'nerds' walked out halfway through).

Things are always quiet round here, but thanks for your contribution! I agree, MA's early 00's work does get overlooked too much, mainly because people are still reeling over his switch from analogue to digital I guess! We have discussed Maldoror here before too. I like the album, but i just feel it could have been so much more. I am a fan of both patton and Merzbow - I think if they did another record things would be a lot different. Strange that MP fans walked out - some of the things he has done with Zorn are no less ridiculous / noisy...

I forgot to add Door Open 8am to my list.
No Merzbow top ten is complete without Door Open 8am
