I honestly think that the significance of Bar Kokhba and Circle Maker etc. is almost non-existent compared to the significance of Zorn's work with structured improvisation, Naked City/Painkiller, and the writing of the Masada book in general. They're nice albums, sure, but not as important as the likes of Cobra or Grand Guignol, I feel. I 100% agree with respect to importance, but what I meant is that although those albums may have seemed minor at the time, they were immensely significant because they pointed towards the way that Zorn would go with the Masada project. Incidentally, I also think that the line about not being able to dance to Masada at a wedding is also slightly wrongheaded: Zorn is almost positioning Masada as an every-context music.
