I wonder what the St. Anne's Warehouse shows are.... my ears always perk up at weekend shows in NY from the St. Anne's Warehouse site: St. Ann's Warehouse presents John Zorn 2 concerts Marc Ribot guitar | Jamie Saft keyboards Ikue Mori electronics | Trevor Dunn bass Cyro Baptista percussion | Joey Baron drums Kenny Wollesen vibraphone, drums | John Zorn conductor The Dreamers Fri Feb 29 | 8PM | World Premiere | 30 Essential Cinema Sat Mar 1 | 8PM | $30 Featuring films by Kenneth Anger (Eaux D'Artifice),Wallace Berman (Aleph), Joseph Cornell (Rose Hobart, By Night with Torch and Spear), Maya Deren (Ritual in Transfigured Time) and Marie Menken(Go Go Go) See Both for $50 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- John Zorn is one of the most prolific and influential composer/musician/producers of our time, and his band features artists who, like Zorn, are at once stars of the downtown New York scene and also possessed of a rare aesthetic worldliness. The Dreamers Fri Feb 29, Zorn will lead the band in a World Premiere performance of his newest work, The Dreamers, which continues in the tradition of his popular album, The Gift. Zorn combines a lifetime of musical passions—world music, movie soundtracks, jazz, minimalism, exotica, funk, surf rock and more—to create a vibrant and multifaceted collection of exquisite, instrumental fairy tales. Essential Cinema Sat Mar 1, St. Ann’s Warehouse will present a new iteration of Zorn’s Essential Cinema project, in which the band performs to a selection of experimental films by Joseph Cornell, Kenneth Anger, Maya Deren and Harry Smith. Operating with a deep sense and intrinsic understanding of the filmmakers, the movies and how music works with image, he composes new soundtracks for the films. Essential Cinema promises sudden surprises, unpredictable pleasure and rock solid moments of sustained synesthesia. These concerts are presented with support from The New York State Music Fund. Been trying to save some money, but I may have to drop the $50 for the two shows. Not that it's really too steep a price.... Dave

When I bought the ticket for the philly show, only the 8pm show was listed. I'll probably stick to just the 8pm show since the greyhound im taking wont get there until 4 and I'll be seeing the Dreamers and Essential cinema in NY anyways.
i notice that zorn is only listed as conductor at the st. ann's warehouse site...he doesn't play at all in essential cinema or the dreamers?

Geez, you guys get Electric Masada doing Masada *and* the Dreamers *and* Essential Cinema all in one day? Day-um! No wonder they had to break it up into two shows. matfive, maybe if there's a bunch of us we could meet up for a drink before the show(s) or something... If anybody else wants to, I would be down to meet for a drink before one of the shows in Brooklyn. I haven't spent much time in Brooklyn and don't really know anything about the area where the venue is (does anybody have any information on this?). I am staying with a friend and I am not sure exactly where he lives just yet, but NYC has the most amazing public transport systems I have ever been on (at least it is 20 times better than in Chicago!), so it should be pretty easy to commute to Brooklyn. Cheers

i'd be up for it, but i'll have to get back in touch when i know for sure that i'll be there...there's a good chance that i will be out of town unfortunately.
It's pretty easy to get to from the Subway, off the A or C or even the F. It's near the Manhattan bridge (actually DUMBO = Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass) which is right across from Manhattan.

Hi Everyone
I am really getting excited about the Zorn shows in Brooklyn and Philadelphia this weekend, I can't wait to see the world premiere of the Dreamers!
My friend who was going to attend the show with me on Friday and Saturday has to work Friday night and won't be able to attend the Friday evening show, so I have an extra ticket to the show. If any of you know someone who wants to go see the show but hasn't bought a ticket yet, please let me know. The seat is in the first row, AA 102 or 103. I would hate to see the ticket go to waste.
Hopefully, some of us will be able to meet before one of the shows (Fri or Sat) for a drink.
Cheers!

Just finally sorted out my schedule - it was looking a little iffy about the Friday show but I will be there. I should be in town Friday afternoon in time to meet up for a drink if anyone is interested... Saturday I am planning to see a friend performing in Greenwich Village at 6PM before running over to Brooklyn in time for the 8PM show (busy night!).
If no one here wants the ticket I can ask if one of my NYC-area friends wants to come.

sarahv it doesn't look like anybody from here wants the extra ticket to the Friday show, so if you know somebody in NYC who might want it, that would be great. If you end up finding someone, I can meet you before the show and give you the ticket. It looks like there are some bars/restaurants within walking distance of the venue (see link below). If anybody want to meet up before the show. Just set a time/place and we can all try to be there. www.stannswarehouse.org/restaurants_and_bars.phpCheers!

How about Friday at... 6:30 PM? I haven't the slightest clue which place to pick though.
I'll send out some messages and see if I can find a taker for that ticket...

I think I have a buyer for your ticket... he's a local so I'll ask him to pick a place for us to meet up, too

Great! Thanks for finding someone who wants the ticket.
My only concern is that it is supposed to snow in Chicago tonight and tomorrow morning, but clear up later in the day Friday, so hopefully my flight isn't delayed too long.
Just let me know the place to meet, and I'll be there. Not sure how this is going to work, seeing as we have never seen each other. But I am East Indian so that should narrow the search down, and I will be wearing a black coat, black shirt, and khaki pants

OK, here's the plan: meeting at 6:30 at the Henry St. Ale House, 62 Henry St. in Brooklyn. It's close to the subway and then we can all walk over to the show together. My friend Ben will take the 2nd ticket. This should help you find us: Me: img.photobucket.com/albums/v399/gr8ful/akronsl.jpg (I'm the one in glasses...)
