"Since 2005, The Stone at Avenue C and 2nd street has served as one of the world’s preeminent venues for new and creative music, a space that has encouraged and inspired artists to create the music of their wildest imagination while offering an intimate and focused listening environment for the audience. In thirteen years The Stone has presented over 7500 concerts of groundbreaking music that defies categorization and has stood firm in its unique policy of giving 100% of the nightly revenue to the artists. How has this been possible? By avoiding unnecessary costs and distractions; by generating income with legendary monthly benefit concerts; from the sale of special edition benefit CDs and most of all, by the goodwill, enthusiasm and support of a worldwide community of music lovers who recognize the magic of The Stone.
As this first chapter on Avenue C comes near its end and The Stone begins its move to the New School of Social Research, we are are now asking you, the worldwide community of music lovers for help. The Stone is currently running at a $30,000 deficit and will incur more costs with the move to our new location on 13th street. Since opening in 2005 the world has changed in unexpected ways and now it has become necessary to call upon you, the listener, for additional help."
