I keep hoping for a Book of Angels release for Bar Kokhba, since I love the band and it's been such a great series so far... and I just found this concert listing at the Abrons Arts Center in December:
I just might have to head down to NYC that weekend... ;D

I agree.....and that show looks like its gonna be good too....!! Bar Kokhba is definitely up there among the best shows / performances Ive ever seen, would love to see them again.....I do, however prefer the sextet / 50th Birthday set to the actual B.K. album itself. Its just a whole lot more groove,y'know?

I like the live 50th birthday set better than the album too - I guess we'll have to see how another studio album shakes out after a few more years of performing together as a group I'm going to have to convince my mom that we need to have Chanukah in NY this year... and that I'll be going to a concert... hmm.

www.ovationtix.com/trs/cal/209I can't get a direct link to the show to work for some reason. This is the calendar, go to December and you'll see them.

Awesome. By December a good deal of my uni application process will be finished, and I'll still have a while until exams start. I reckon there's a damn good chance I'll be there.

You guys make me so jealous!
It's four years since I straddled the globe all the way from Oz (via Tokyo) to see JZ. I booked in at the Chelsea Hotel in NYC then went straight to Tonic to see ELECTRIC MASADA as part of JZ's 50th Birthday. What a night - I was surprised that there were so few people at the first set but quite a few Australians and Japanese amongst them. I got to shake the great man's hand and wish him happy birthday and between sets had a great conversation with Cyro & Ikue. They slipped me in for the second set as the lines were beginning to form. Seems like New Yorkers only turn up late. What a night - what a band!

I barely got to the show last night - got there just after 8PM... by some miracle there were a couple of empty seats in the center of the front row when I got there even though it looked to be just about sold out. Talk about good luck! The show was really good, a little more guitar distortion/noise than I'm used to hearing from BK. Crowd was very enthusiastic, the band seemed to be in a good mood. For an encore they played a couple of new pieces - the first one I thought was just fantastic, the second one I found a little odd... not bad, but odd.
Much as I love it I'm kind of hoping they keep the noise to a minimum tonight as I decided to take them at their word on "delightful and extraordinary music for the whole family" and I am bringing my parents to the show... should be interesting ;-)

Great show tonight! The new material is outstanding. Just before the encore (Khebar), Zorn jumped up and yelled "a whole set of material learned in one day by these fucking geniuses!!" Then he sat down and muttered something along the lines of "now we're going to fuck it up in the recording studio tomorrow."
Finally another BK studio album! 2008 is shaping up to be a very good year indeed.

Yeah, the show tonight was excellent - and my parents really liked it! My dad said Cyro Baptista was his favorite band member (and he wanted to know why Joey Baron is so happy all the time - I did not have an answer except "he's always like that"). My mom said her favorite part was watching John Zorn conducting and said he was "amazing to watch." Definitely a success. I might have to get them a BK CD for a Chanukah present....
I really liked a lot of the new pieces. Can't wait for the album!
