Arcana I and II are top priority in my wishlist.
Latest JZ related release I got my hands on is Butch Morris - Current Trends In Racism In Modern America.
PappaWas "Songs From The Hermetic Theatre" is amazing. A sure recommendation if you ask me.

Hermetic Theatre is a strange album. "Beuysblock" is a cool track with all the funny instruments. 60 different things are listed!
(honey, clothes pin, $82 in cash, mustache scissors, hair, blood, wooden cane, mud, nail clippers, electric fan, hardcover book, flower pots, door.......piano & strings)

It seems like an album I should have bought a long while ago. I can't wait to check it out Yep, that's the story of my life as a John Zorn fan: 1) Hear about an album 2) Want the album 3) Get the album 4) Spend the next four months trying to understand the album.

... by which time John Zorn has released two new albums, and you have to start all over. Well, that's just another dilemma: as a new fan do I buy the new stuff first, or trawl through the back catalogue? A little of each seems to be the answer.

Well, that's just another dilemma: as a new fan do I buy the new stuff first, or trawl through the back catalogue? A little of each seems to be the answer. As someone who started listening to Zorn just a few years ago and has completed purchasing his back catalog (with a few stray tracks that I hear about now and again that I fill in...), I can offer a bit of advice. When I discovered that my obsession with Zorn was borderline unhealthy (my wife refers to him as "the other woman" when I disappear for 2-3 days at a time to see Zorn in NYC), I made an effort to keep up with all the new stuff while slowly filling in the back catalog over time. It took several years, including a 13 days of "Zornmas" gift from my then-fiance (the aformentioned now-wife) a couple years back to complete, but by and large, keeping up with the new stuff made is feasible to fill in the back catalog. OTOH, if you're not a completionist and/or are fairly normal, this may not be the best strategy...

The largest hole being in his Filmworks series. I have 1 to 10, and Vol. 13.....Alot of ground to cover there, but Ill get there in the end..... Saying that, I always enjoy getting into artists with large discographies.....Zorn, Zappa, Miles, Merzbow, etc.....Adds to the fun 9 apart from trying to complete the Merzbow discog. thatdd be impossible and way too expensive... )

I'm not a completist exactly (and I'm not sure that it's possible to be with Grateful Dead), but I am a born collector and especially with performers who have a wide range of styles I like to cover the ground in depth.

Latest Zorn related items are Lost in The Stars: The Music of Kurt Weil - with one JZ track... and the two volumes of the Carl Stalling Project (the first one has liner notes by JZ).
I know their pretty peripheral to the Zorn catalogue but I'm just trying to fill in the gaps.

News For Lulu and More News For Lulu arrived in my mail on Friday. JZ and company [George Lewis, Bill Frisell] interpreting live compositions by Kenny Dorham, Hank Mobley, Sonny Clark, Freddie Redd, John Patton, Misha Mengelberg. Immaculate modern takes on swinging [hard] bop greats.

News For Lulu and More News For Lulu arrived in my mail on Friday. You mean the old ones or the re-editions ? Because it seems Hat Hut is going to re-release these in the coming months but, who knows ? maybe it's already done.

What I got are the original pressings [1988, 1992]. I think News for Lulu was reissued in 1993 with different artwork [full color, in the vein of More News For Lulu cover]. I didn't know they were going to be re-released now. Both being long oop it was about time they would be available again.

Not only are they long out of print, they're in serious need of remastering too. Zorn's Tzadik catalog sounds so good, I get disappointed with the sound of old issues. The Hat website lists both as "upcoming" but that's about it.
