Hi, I just got interested in reggae and dub, after listening for some years to Jamie Saft and realizing I haven't listened to anyone else doing dub. Any recomendations, essential albums to build up my collection? Thanks everybody

Hi, I just got interested in reggae and dub, after listening for some years to Jamie Saft and realizing I haven't listened to anyone else doing dub. Any recomendations, essential albums to build up my collection? Thanks everybody I'm no expert, but I can definitely recommend the following records! Re Dub - All the Scientist albums I've heard I like, even if they are a little samey. Scientist Encounters Pac-Man, Scientist Wins the World Cup and Scientist Rids The World Of The Evil Curse Of The Vampires are all good too! Lee "Scratch" Perry And The Upsetters - "Super Ape" See also "Return Of The Super Ape" and "Kung Fu Meets The Dragon". Can't go wrong with King Tubby, Augustus Pablo or and Sly & Robbie album either! As for the more Reggae side of things, Bob Marley's catalogue may well be more commercial and over played, but most of it is great. Same deal with Peter Tosh's albums... Others I'd recommend - (Most BU albums, actually!) (One of my favourite reggae albums) Related to Tzadik, David Gould's Adonai albums are worth a listen too.

Thank you! I'll try to check up as many as I can.. For the monent I'm into Matisyahu and waiting for Roots Tonic meet Bill Laswell. Thanks again! I'm VERY late on this one. I work for Bill so I do tend to be a bit slanted in his favor. That being said, Roots Tonic is pleasant enough but not earth-shattering. Matisyahu...eh. Largely not my thing though there are a couple of descent songs. For Bill's stuff, the albums he did on ROIR are very nice, particularly Sacred System 4: Book of Exit. He also put together two comps of old Trojan Tunes for Sanctuary a while back, Trojan Dub Massives Vol. 1 and 2. Great mix of stuff. Sly& Robbie, Roots Radics, The Aggrovators.... The recent Lee 'Scratch' Perry album we did on on Bill's new label M.O.D. Technologies (Rise Again) I think is outstanding. Some of the best Perry's done in years. If you're looking for old school dub, any of the albums that Blood & Fire re-issued are outstanding. Dub Gone Crazy, Dub Gone 2 Crazy. Yabby U meets King Tubby. Tubby, Prince Jammy, Scientist...amazing mixers as was Lee Perry back in the day (he doesn't really do any mixing anymore). Perry's Black Ark era dubs are phenominal.
