www.marcribot.com/After a solo concert from Ribot 2 days ago in Luzern (CH) I thought it is time now for a extra thread. He played some new melodic tracks written for movies, sadly the most have not seen the daylight. He will record the songs when he is back in New York after the little Europe tour in March. Album title is "Silent Movies", but he was not sure about that. Marc Ribot has a new group called SUNSHIP with Chad Taylor (Spiritual Unity..., www.myspace.com/rythmicnavigation ), Jason Ajemian (Tortoise..., www.jasonajemian.com/ ) and Mary Halvorson (T.Dunns Trio Convulsant..., www.maryhalvorson.com/bands/ ). Don´t know anything about a record but the Quartet will play at the Willisau Jazzfestival 2009 in Switzerland! He plays also a gig with Ceramic Dog featured by Eszter Balint at the Moers Festival 2009 in Germany. Moers: www.moers-festival.de/index.php?id=628&L=1Willisau: www.jazzwillisau.ch/

More birthday stuff at Le Poisson Rouge...
Fri. May 15, 2009 Marc Ribot's Los Cubanos Postizos / Cotito Trio with Marc Ribot / La Cumbiamba eNeYe with Marc Ribot
Sat. May 16, 2009 Marc Ribot's Retrospective Birthday Celebration: Marc Ribot's Ceramic Dog / Young Philadelphians
I'm starting to think I need to start planning another trip to NYC!
ETA: Looks like there is another Cubanos Postizos/La Cumbiamba eNeYe event on Sunday May 10 at a place called Jalopy... I've been hunting around venues/sites looking for more stuff...

More of the Ribot fest... read something that described it as starting on May 9th so I guess there will be more shows to come. This one unfortunately clashes with the Rashanim show at the Stone: www.joespub.com/component/option,com_shows/task,view/Itemid,40/id,4496 ETA from the Brecht forum.. The more I look the more I find

Ribot (and more than likely Rob Burger, Greg Cohen and Joey Baron as well) will be playing with Marianne Faithful on Letterman this tuesday (the 31st)

I wonder if Mr Zorn will be making any guest appearances during this run. I have some live sets from the 90's of the Young Philadelphians with JZ on alto. Killer stuff!

"On this week’s Popcast, Jon Pareles takes in the 40th annual New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival; Ben Ratliff reviews “Set ‘Em Wild, Set ‘Em Free” by the Brooklyn band Akron/Family; and guitarist Marc Ribot plays two songs in our studio and talks to Ben Sisario. Sia Michel is your host." Ribot stuff starts around 14:30... there's a direct download link in there too. artsbeat.blogs.nytimes.com/tag/marc-ribot/And yes, the shows were terrific, especially the ones with Marc Ribot..... oh wait... ;D

Thanks a lot for the link, Sarah! The 2 songs are great and the interview is interesting.
Have much fun at the Ribot concerts! You are going to see Shrek?

I just got back from NYC last night... unfortunately I had to miss the Shrek/Rootless Cosmopolitans night but I heard it was fantastic. I saw Young Philadelphians, Ceramic Dog, music of Frantz Casseus, Sunship, the Cubanos Postizos (and the two other bands that night that he played guitar with) and the tribute night at the Stone.

Amazing!
In what direction goes the music from SUNSHIP? I will go to the concert in Switzerland (Willisau) end of August.

Sunship was avant/free jazz kind of stuff... nice and loud, electric guitar as you'd expect... the first couple of songs he said were by John Coltrane, not sure about the rest. The encore was especially good.
