I´m back from France now after 2 really great days with MAGMA, with 3 musicians from the first decade as special guests. Can´t get enough of them. ( MagmaRadio with 30 songs: muzihk.free.fr/radio/radio.htm ) The opener on the first day was "Bernard Struber Z'tett plays Zappa", interesting jazzversions from Zappa songs, but the drummer was fucking lame/boring. At the end of October I will see Oceansize (superb live & studio band) and Deerhunter in my neighborhood. Has everyone seen Deerhunter live on stage? Btw, when you have the chance to see Marc Ribot´s Ceramic Dog with Shahzad Ismaily (Two Foot Yard, Secret Chiefs 3...) and Ches Smith (Trevor Dunns Trio Convulsant, Secret Chiefs 3...), you must go. I saw them 3 times this year in Switzerland. Everytime a pleasure listen to this weird electro/avant/punk/rock. www.myspace.com/marcribotsceramicdogJuly 2008 they are on tour in Europe again. Ooh, I forgot, I will see Ribot again in November. This time he is solo and one day after NoMeansNo. Good concerts in the near future, YEAH!

Caught Bill Frisell's Disfarmer Project at the Walker Art Center last weekend. Pretty sweet. It's great when he starts playing with all his effects toys in the middle of a 'pretty' song and his bandmates look at him like he's the naughty boy in the classroom.

Borders on Painkiller-ish sound, but different. I'm unfamiliar with ZU's work, though Eraldo's been talking them up for quite a while. FWIW - the past gigs that did include Mick have caused Zorn and Laswell to re-open the doors to Mick for a Painkiller release. Was supposed to be recorded last month (see the Mick's healthe problems comment above) but will hopefully still be coming off in the Fall. Fingers crossed. I like the incarnations I've heard, but to me the core of Painkiller is Zorn, Laswell and Mick. Dave
