We need more Zorn enthusiasts and Merzbow fans to make this place worthwhile!
I started it in the thinking that it would serve as an informative and ultimately busy forum for both artists!
I refuse to believe that the members of this board are the only John Zorn and Merzbow enthusiasts IN THE WORLD!
So, anyone with any ideas, thoughts etc, let me know.
Shall we just shut down? Or move to nicer climes?
That said,to all of you who do frequently visit, thanks! I just wish there were more hot topics and debate to make this site a daily browse.
Thoughts please people.

I know it doesn't get much traffic but the Zorn forum has been a great source of info for me, and some of us met up at the Dreamers concert earlier this year... it's definitely worthwhile :-) I've been mostly out of commission due to things like a back injury and a death in the family this fall - my lack of posts doesn't indicate lack of interest... just real life getting in the way...
Maybe we could open up the Zorn forum to cover more stuff, like the whole Downtown music scene? I know we talk about that stuff some already but making it official might attract more people and more posts. I know for me personally, there are other musicians in those categories that I'd love to have more info/discussion on but I don't know of a place to get it.
On the other music forums/lists I'm on, discussion of the actual artist and their shows is pretty minimal except when there's a new album or a big tour... the rest of the time it's talking about other music we're listening to, other concerts, books, movies, etc. I'm on one other list that is strict about being on-topic and there's been about 100 posts all year (and that's with a new album and european/american tours).
I think the only way to make it a bustling online community is to make things a little more general than just talking about one artist - we have a few JZ CDs a year to discuss and maybe each of us goes to a couple of JZ concerts if we're lucky... but a single artist may not be enough to sustain a constant discussion.

I totally agree the comment from Sarah and I also met some guys from this forum in Willisau. Please keep it alive!
The biggest problem are the artists, especialy Zorn. No interviews or news about their work. No articles in music magazines and so on. Not much to discuss. An other reason for no big discussions is , in my case, the limited language knowledge.
The Visitor count is maybe limited because you must be registered to read something in it. (Or not?) I think it is interesting to know on which way the users here found the way to your cool forum.
I was invited to the forum by SahrahV after meeting her at the ZornFest in Rome.

I started dating someone recently who had never heard of Zorn. It came up this evening because I plan on going to the show next March in Cleveland [one of my fave cities] and asked her if she'd be interested in going. I searched the interweb for a written piece that would serve as an introduction to the world of Zorn. There was a link to this forum in Zorn's Wikipedia entry. So *voila* here I am.
My initial impression of the forum is that it seems to be narrow in scope. Of course discussing Zorn and his assorted cohorts is a given. But there is a finite number of things to discuss. I echo the sentiments above concerning other boards having forums to discuss other topics such as art, literature, cinema, television, and whatever else someone feels like discussing.
I think simply setting up an "Everything Else" or "General Discussion" would go a long way towards making this board a more active, thriving online community. I realize that there may be a natural argument against doing something like that since so many other boards have such forums. But the other forums do not have the advantage of offering the unique perspectives I would expect from Zorn fans.
Well that's my two cents. I have enough left over for an ice cream cone!

I did that, and nobody used them!

I refuse to believe that the members of this board are the only John Zorn and Merzbow enthusiasts IN THE WORLD! what if it turned out that most zorn/merz related stuff is still sitting in warehouses, not listened to? either that or..people are too busy with newfangled things like facebook to care about messageboards anymore. both are probably true to an extent

Wow, this thread started nearly nine years ago ... first time I've seen it. I guess that things haven't got much busier here in the interim, but I'd be sorry to see these forums close. Of course they're not needed in the grand scheme of things with all the social media, but this would surely be the first third-party site returned by a search engine for those artists, so it would be a shame to close it.

Can someone share this place to wherever our fellow Zorn fans hangout? (I'm not really sure, facebook maybe?)
It'd be a dream if this place was active on a daily basis, lets make it happen!
