Great, thank you very much for that information! If I find the time, I'll probably go to the gig in Köln.

Yeah, saw these dates. No UK dates unfortunately, but we can't really complain, as he did 3 ( or 4? ) earlier this year.
If you go, let us know how it is, Halcyon!

...If you go, let us know how it is...quote] 11.11. Cologne: After 5 hours on the road, a huge city. It is a cold and rainy day. Many drunken peoples in weird clothings are around on and beside the dark streets. German carnival starts on this day, shit! After a longer search I found the Location. A restaurant in a Park. Behind the Statdgarten burns a big fire. 100 or more kids standing around the fire with laterns in their little hands and singing (St.Martins day). A big meal and a few drinks later I was ready for some noises. In the house were different stages and the gig was original planned in the little music cellar. It was on the main stage now. 90 chairs in front of it! That is not what I expect for a noise concert, haha. The room filled fastly with older couples, Metelheads and music freaks. Maybe 150 at the end. 2 guys are selling Vinyl and CDs on 4 long tables. I bought the doubleCD "Keio Line". Good psychedelic stuff, btw. The lights are going out, time for the opener DAS SYNTHETISCHE MISCHGEWEBE (Moscow 2006 - www.youtube.com/watch?v=ewY0L6T1PLI ). The industrial/noise duo works scince the early 80ies. On this day only one person makes noises with selfmade machines, aluminium foil and little lightnings on a overfilled table in front of the stage. He stands with his back to the audience. The masterbeat was made by a hammer in a plastic bag and unknown mechanics, sounds and looks like a heartbeat. Interesting to watch and listen to it. In the backround were very cool live filmed visuals. 20min break. Time for more beer! On the stage now stands a table with two laptops on the left side and a chair on the right side. Merzbow & Pinhas (Heldon) entering the stage. Applause! Silence! Slowly growing noises. Very monoton and repeatingly. Guitar noises from Pinhas are coming in from time to time. The main theme changes 2 times in less than 1 hour. The gig was over. No encore. The show was short without any lightshow or fog. Pinhas had no chance against the intense noises. On CD both are working good together and it sounds more psychedelic. Live on stage it is not the best experience. Merzbow was the good charismatic noisemaker, the boring Pinhas was not really necessarily in my oppinion. After the gig it was chillout time til 6:00AM with lots of beer, jazz & noise at the home from a friend I know from the ATP-NightmareBefore Christmas-2006 Festival. At the end it was a good time!

I'd love to go and see Merzbow in seats, both times I've seen him it has been in a skanky old pub/nightclub and although both times have been magical the idea of it being a very personal (i.e your very own chair) experience certainly does appleal to me.
I have to say that both times I've seen the man I've been surprised by the age range and types of people who have come along. When I saw him in Birmingham a few years ago the oldest person I saw must have been going on 60-65. I can only hope that I'm still interested enough to do that..hat's off to that guy.

Merzbow will play a show on Saturday, 21st March in Salzburg during the Salzburg Biennale. www.salzburgbiennale.at/en/toshio-hosokawa-japanische-musik.html#info[a href="http://www.republic.at/index.php?id=176&tx_noevents_pi1[showUid]=749"]http://www.republic.at/index.php?id=176&tx_noevents_pi1[showUid]=749[/a] Salzburg is only three hours away from me, so I may go see it. Besides, Otomo Yoshihide is also doing a performance there just the day before Merzbow, and I'd also really like to see Otomo live.

I have seen Otomo twice, and both times he was excellent. Always does something surprising! He is a really nice guy too, met him after both shows and although his English isn't too strong, he always has time to speak to people....

Salzburg is beautiful too! Indeed, it's a lovely place. My former girlfriend also lives there, so this might as well turn into a small trip where I visit here, spend some time in the city and then go to the concerts of Otomo and Merzbow. I'm also really excited about Otomo live. Last thing I heard of him was his soundtrack for the Japanese movie Yuheisha/Prisoner, which was brilliant imo (I haven't kept up with his latest output, though. Any recommendations?). Also, I've never seen neither Otomo nor Merzbow live before, so this will be quite the experience for me.

I only have about 15 of his albums, but all the Ground Zero albums are great, especially Revolutionary Pekinese Opera, which is one of my favourite albums ever....
