The only death metal band I actually like, any fans here? Yeah! Piece Of Time and Unquestionable Presence are great albums. Had them back in the day, and definitely need to be re-bought on cd......

Have you heard Elements? It was their last album, and while not quite the follow up to Unquestionable Presence that you'd hope for, it's still a great release.

That album, along with a few others, are on my check out list - albums by bands that I dug back in the day, but moved on and missed ( sometimes ) vital parts of their catalogue. Obscura by Gorguts springs to mind too.

Well, since this this is the only death metal band that I've heard that I can dig, how about some recommendations?

There are so many!
If you like the more technical side of things, then DEATH for sure - especially Human, Individual Thought Patterns, Symbolic and The Sound Of Perserverance...
Also try CYNIC, and their only album Focus. Not so much Death Metal, but technical, and very good!
Two good as any places to begin!
True classic of the genre, regardless of technicality -
MORBID ANGEL - Altars Of Madness, CARCASS - Symphonies Of Sickness, DEICIDE - Deicide, OBITUARY - Cause Of Death, ENTOMBED - Left Hand Path and Clandestine, AUTOPSY - Mental Funeral, IMMOLATION - Dawn Of Possession........there are alot of good albums, mostly from the old skool IMO. ( Modern day DM doesnt really cut it for me.... )

Checked out Elements recently Crud. Really enjoyed it, think it's a great album.
Lots of great playing on there, and while not as rabid as their previous records, it is really solid, as you said.

I think Kelly's voice really comes in to its own on that album, not particularly harsh but it has this kind of "off melody" quality that really works with the music.
